Woodworm
Woodworm is the wood eating larvae of many species of beetle which include Common Furniture Beetle, Deathwatch Beetle, House Longhorn Beetle, Powderpost Beetle.
The female lays her eggs in moist, nutritious timber which then produce larvae, these then hatch into woodworm which eats up and down the timber.
Woodworm typically happens between May and September but isn’t always the case.
It depends on the type of Woodworm as to how much damage can occur it can range from a series of pin sized holes to reducing the timbers structural integrity.
The most common form of woodworm beetle is the Common Furniture Beetle, these measure 2.5 – 4.5mm long with a brown ellipsoidal body, it general attacks damp softwood or plywood leaving 1 – 2 mm exit holes.
